Passive 3D Glasses VS Active 3D Glasses

Since the 3D movie hit the theaters recently, the trend has been extent to everyone’s home now. But we saw two matrices in the 3D TV market. Brands like LG, Vizio and Toshiba are going with passive 3D glasses, and Samsung, Sony and Panasonic are leading of the Active 3D glasses and TVs. So what’s the final choice of these two similar products? The question has been confused by many users.

Passive 3D Glasses

The passive 3D glasses were basically via the two color glasses, which even we can make a pair by ourselves. But the picture was poor and the glasses were impractical. The reason is because the 3D images showed by the passive 3D glasses are using the color to separate. Some or all color information is lost to the viewer then. But the main advantages of the passive 3D glasses, one is not expensive; another is no requiring for power sources. Like what 123InkCartridges we have now.LG passive 3D Glasses Value Pack for five now $69.96. And with the passive 3D, the viewer will see 540 lines of resolution to each eye, or let’s say half 1080p.

Active 3D Glasses

Active 3D glasses usually are powered by a small battery which can deliver a Full HD 1080p image to each eye. So the viewer could experience a full HD 3D.The theory of active 3D glasses is that the viewers use LCD lenses, those are commanded to alternately open and shut each lens to show each eye a different image. Since the technology is more complicated than passive glasses, one pair of active 3D glasses is a little bit pricy, around $50-$100 per pair. Most 3D TVs will come with one pair for free.123InkCartridges also has one 3D IR Active Shutter glasses for Samsung 3D displays. The price is $47.99

The active 3D glasses deliver more smooth resolution than the passive one. But the active 3D glasses not allow the viewers watching TV in every angle, for example, lying down on the sofa. And active 3D glasses easy to cause eye strain and fatigue because of it not actively opening and closing. While passive 3D viewing won’t.

Recently, both the passive and active 3D glasses are improved, also the TVs. The flashing problem of active glasses has been eliminated.  In short, if you are mainly watching 3D animation movies with kids and has a small 3D TV, it would be ideal to buy passive 3D TV glasses. On the other side, if you are movie fan and want to buy 3D TV over 42 inches, consider buying active shutter 3D TV and active 3D glasses.
